\nGraeme Souness has claimed that a “proper club” would look to part ways with Marcus Rashford due to his unwillingness to track back and help out defensively for Manchester United.<\/p>\n

To say that Rashford has underwhelmed this season would be a massive understatement. He has been a far cry from the sensational player he was last season, as he plundered a career-high 30 goals across all competitions.<\/p>\n

This term however, Rashford’s tally currently stands at just eight goals. He looks like a shadow of his former self and there are growing calls from both the media and supporters for United to explore the possibility of selling him this summer.<\/p>\n

A previous report<\/a> covered by The Peoples Person relayed that the club bosses would listen to offers from Rashford, although the player’s wish is to remain at Old Trafford<\/a> and fight for his place.<\/p>\n

One aspect of Rashford’s play that people seem to have an issue with is his work rate. Often after games, clips have emerged on social media showing the England international failing to properly get involved in the press or tracking back.<\/p>\n

Such footage – after United’s game against Luton<\/a> – went viral. In the video, Rashford appeared to allow Ross Barkley to easily dribble past him as he barely put any effort to stop the midfielder.<\/p>\n

Speaking on William Hill\u2019s podcast Three Up Front<\/a>, Souness opened up on this incident and pointed out that a player not working hard is simply unacceptable and should not be tolerated.<\/p>\n

The former Liverpool man said, “When I was a player, no one was given permission to not track back, you\u2019d sprint forward, and even quicker coming back \u2013 no one was given a pass.”<\/p>\n

“I\u2019d say that\u2019s how it has been before my time and even now for the very best teams. If you\u2019re at a proper club with proper professionals, you\u2019re doing that in training each day and if you\u2019re not, they\u2019ll come after you. The coach doesn\u2019t even have to say it, that\u2019s what happens at the big clubs.”<\/p>\n

“This should be hammered into you in the training sessions, what Marcus Rashford showed against Ross Barkley when they played Luton a few weeks ago, means he must\u2019ve been doing that in training.”<\/p>\n

Souness added, “If he was doing that at a proper football club, they\u2019d be all over him to the point where there would be fallouts, and if they didn\u2019t learn, they\u2019d think about selling you.”<\/p>\n

After a short period on the sidelines with an injury, Rashford recently returned to training and could be available to Ten Hag for selection when the Reds take on Arsenal this weekend.
