\nManchester United u18s travelled to Wolverhampton today for a rare midweek lunch time kick-off in a fixture that could seal the Premier League North title for United with a win. <\/p>\n
United started strongly, hitting the back of the net within three minutes, but it was quickly chalked off. <\/p>\n
James Scanlon had broken free down the right wing and forced a big save from the Wolves’ keeper before Gabriele Biancheri pulled back the rebound for Ethan Williams to score. But the ball had already gone out before Biancheri could get to it. <\/p>\n
It didn’t take long for United to get on the scoresheet properly though, as they stuck it past Lewys Benjamin again in the 11th minute. <\/p>\n
Scanlon curled the through ball into the right channel perfectly for Zach Baumann to run on to and square to Biancheri to apply the finish. <\/p>\n
The home side weren’t there to allow United to walk to the title as they equalised in the 20th minute. Min-kyu Ji crossed low from the left side to Connor McLeod to smash it past Elyh Harrison at the back post. <\/p>\n
Immediately upon the restart, Biancheri came within inches of restoring the lead as his shot struck the left post. <\/p>\n
It was only a matter of minutes until the Welshman would restore United’s lead, however, as he finished another fox in the box chance. <\/p>\n
United had drawn Wolves up the pitch to press before Harrison launched the ball down the right wing to Scanlon, who ran in behind and squared to Biancheri for an easy finish. <\/p>\n
Harrison’s next involvement wasn’t as pleasant though as he rushed out and collided with Wolves’ Lennon Patterson before Jack Kingdon importantly cleared the ball of the line. <\/p>\n
United’s keeper remained down for several minutes before the stretcher was brough out and his right leg was secured with a splint. It was a worrying sight but fortunately it was later revealed that he had returned to his feet in the dressing room and was applying weight to his leg. <\/p>\n
The heavy collision took some of the spark out of the match as it drifted into the the second half with neither side looking as threatening. <\/p>\n
Biancheri came close to grabbing a hat-trick when he headed just wide from Williams’ wide free kick.<\/p>\n
With the Premier League North title within their grasp, United maturely controlled the rest of the proceedings with no risks taken to secure the 1-2 victory. <\/p>\n
The three points put Adam Lawrence’s United out of reach at the top of the table to win the league with two games to spare, having lost only once in the league all season. United will now move onto the national final where they will meet the winner of the Premier League South, which looks almost certain to be Chelsea. <\/p>\n
