Manchester United loanee Facundo Pellistri endured a frustrating evening as his Granada side lost out 3-0 against fellow Andalusians, Sevilla.

The match was also notable for United fans as Hannibal Mejbri made a rare six-minute cameo off the bench for Sevilla. The two players briefly shared the pitch before Pellistri was subbed off in the 87th minute.

Los Nazaríes have already been relegated in what has been a poor season and looked second-best all evening against an improving Sevilla side.

Goals from Marcos Acuña, Youssef En-Neysri and Dodi Lukebakio secured the win as the home side had the lion’s share of possession with 61%.

The home side was also able to dominate in terms of shots as they had 11 shots on goal in comparison to Granada’s eight.

Pellistri’s side rarely truly threatened as they only managed one shot on target in the whole match.

The Uruguay international was given a Sofascore rating of 6.6 for his night’s work at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium.

The United loanee struggled to get involved as he only had 29 touches of the ball and he could only complete seven out of an attempted 12 passes for an accuracy of 58%.

The winger is usually the spark plug of the Granada attack, so the fact he was so rarely involved in the game suggests the uphill task his side faced.

He was able to complete one key pass in the game but his two crosses failed to find their intended target.

Pellistri was unable to have any sort of shot on goal and was successful in his solitary dribble attempt of the match.

He was also quite wasteful with the ball, losing possession 13 times in the game.

Defensive work has always been a part of the game he has embraced and this was on show today as the Uruguay international made one clearance and won six out of his 11 ground duels.

Granada have four more games of their La Liga season to try and impress before they must return to the second division. From Pellistri’s perspective, he will look at the games as a chance to prove his worth in regard to another attempt to break into the United first team in the pre-season tour or secure a loan or permanent sale elsewhere.

Eredivisie giants Feyenoord have reportedly registered their interest in Manchester United’s on-loan midfielder Hannibal Mejbri amidst his struggles at Sevilla.

Hannibal sealed a January loan move to Sevilla in search of regular first-team minutes but his time at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium has so far proved to be a nightmare.

The Tunisian has only managed 89 minutes of La Liga action since he joined them. He has started just once, with his other three appearances coming as a substitute.

To put into context just how horrible it has been for the United man, he had amassed 129 minutes of Premier League action before he jetted off to Spain for pastures anew.

Sevilla boss Quique Sánchez Flores has previously made no secret of his dissatisfaction with Hannibal and has lambasted the midfielder’s attitude and work ethic. It’s understood that early into his spell at the club, Hannibal got involved in a training ground bust-up with a senior teammate.

A report covered by The Peoples Person earlier this month divulged that Hannibal is set to return to Old Trafford once the season expires. Unsurprisingly, Sevilla have already decided not to trigger the £17million buy-option that was negotiated in the loan deal with United.

According to GIVEMESPORT, the Red Devils are poised to let the 21-year-old embark on a new adventure with a different club this summer with Feyenoord keen on “giving him the platform to reignite his career.”

“Manchester United star Hannibal Mejbri is ‘likely’ to embark on a fresh challenge when the summer transfer window opens for business as Feyenoord have shown interest in offering a route out of Old Trafford following an underwhelming loan spell with Sevilla, GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed.”

“Feyenoord have shown early interest in luring Hannibal away from Manchester United when he is due to return to Old Trafford at the end of the campaign, according to GMS sources, with the Dutch heavyweights confident that he is capable of being a good fit for the Eredivisie thanks to his ability.”

The publication further states, “It is understood that the Rotterdam-based outfit are adamant that they could help reignite the attacking midfielder’s career, having struggled to reach the heights he achieved during a loan spell with Birmingham City as he racked up seven goal contributions in 41 outings for the Championship side last season, and he would fulfil his potential in new surroundings.”

GIVEMESPORT also point out that United are fully aware that the upcoming transfer window represents their last chance of cashing in on their academy graduate.

Erik ten Hag’s side activated the option to extend Hannibal’s contract by an extra 12 months and unless he is offered fresh terms, the player will leave for nothing in 2025.

It’s unclear whether Feyenoord want Hannibal on a permanent move or on a loan basis.

Not every Manchester United player is having a good time on loan at La Liga.

Mason Greenwood has rebuilt his professional career at Getafe and Facundo Pellistri, even though his team is getting relegated, has at least received minutes on the pitch.

Hannibal Mejbri, on the other hand, has been going through a bonafide nightmare at Sevilla, one that could finally be receiving an ending.

Manchester Evening News reports that Mejbri is set to return to United in the summer after failing to ignite at Seville.

The Tunisian went to Sevilla in January after rebuffing approaches from the likes of Everton and the doubts which were raised at the time proved to be prophetic.

Almost immediately, ominous statements from their manager about the player’s performances painted a worrying picture.

Recently, the nadir of his spell was reached when he was told to stay home and not travel for their game at all.

The mess has reached such a level that a recent report indicated that it is harming relations between the two clubs, with United not pleased with Sevilla’s treatment of the player.

The deal, which contained a £17 million buy option as well as a buy-back option in case he sets the world alight in Spain looks a lifetime ago now.

It is yet another example of United failing with their loan system as Mejbri returned in the summer on the back of an encouraging loan spell at Birmingham in the Championship.

Instead of taking the natural next step and moving to a Premier League side, he inexplicably chose a Sevilla team in perennial upheaval in recent years.

It has inevitably come back to bite him and the club as he will have to rebuild his career effectively from scratch while United have seen the value of their player crash completely.

Hannibal Mejbri’s loan spell at Sevilla has gone from poor to dire after the Manchester United midfielder was left out of the Spanish side’s matchday squad to face Getafe.

Sevilla beat Getafe 1-0 at the Coliseum courtesy of a fifth-minute goal from veteran defender Sergio Ramos.

For United fans, Hannibal’s omission raised eyebrows. The player was not even on the bench against Jose Bordalas’ men.

The Carrington academy graduate joined Sevilla in January in search of regular first-team minutes.

Hannibal’s season began on a high note as he got a few opportunities in Erik ten Hag’s set-up. He even scored a banger during a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Brighton in September.

However, since early November when the Tunisia international started a Carabao Cup clash vs. Newcastle, he saw his minutes drastically curtailed. This prompted United to sanction his temporary exit to Sevilla.

It has been a nightmare so far, to say the least, for Hannibal. He made a disastrous start to life at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium by receiving a yellow card in the opening five minutes of his debut.

He then got involved in a training ground bust-up with a senior teammate that resulted in his brief axing from the team.

It was previously relayed that members of Hannibal’s entourage are extremely unhappy with how his loan move has panned out and they harbour questions over the decision-making of manager Quique Sánchez Flores, who clearly doesn’t fancy the player.

A subsequent report covered by The Peoples Person noted that United are also concerned with what’s happening to Hannibal and the Red Devils are seriously contemplating stopping any further transfer dealings with Sevilla.

The 21-year-old has only amassed 89 minutes of La Liga action. He has started just one game and has been a substitute in four others.

He has not played even a single minute since March 2.

According to Estadio Deportivo, it was Quique Sánchez Flores who made the final decision not to include Hannibal in Sevilla’s travelling contingent to face Getafe.

Flores instructed the United loanee to stay home as his services were not needed.

The newspaper divulges, “Hannibal Mejbri has been one of the players discarded by Quique Sánchez Flores, coach of the Nervión club, who preferred to mention other players, some even recently injured. This is why Hannibal Mejbri ‘s situation becomes even more complicated than it already was at Sevilla FC.”

“Hannibal Mejbri, one of Sevilla FC’s signings in the last winter market, has been dropped from the squad by the decision of his coach Quique Sánchez Flores who, after recovering several injured players, has dispensed with the services of the Franco-Tunisian.”

Estadio Deportivo add that Hannibal will endure a “very difficult time” to prove his worth in the final stretch of the season. This is because a number of his teammates who were sidelined are now fit and available for selection.

Unsurprisingly, Sevilla have decided not to trigger the purchase option that was included in the loan deal with United. Once the campaign ends, Hannibal will almost certainly go back to Old Trafford.

Manchester United decided to send Hannibal Mejbri out on loan in January with the Tunisian hardly getting a sniff in the first half the season under Erik ten Hag.

In the summer, reports emerged that after discussions with the manager, it was felt that the 21-year-old would finally get his chance to shine for the first team.

He had been sent out on loan to Birmingham City in the Championship the previous campaign and following numerous injuries, the Dutch manager felt the academy graduate’s skillsets was worth utilising.

However, the Tunisia international started four games in all competitions, scored a stunner against Brighton but then seemed to once again fall out of favour despite Ten Hag’s public praises.

Hannibal’s disastrous loan

Multiple clubs had been chasing him since the summer and Sevilla finally won the race after beating out Premier League team Everton, where United tried to send the versatile midfielder.

The player’s camp felt that regular minutes in the high-pressure La Liga environment would be good for the development of the academy graduate, whos rise had stalled after he had been hailed as one to watch out for ever since his arrival in Manchester.

The loan move to the seven-time Europa League winners has proved to be nothing short of disastrous with Quique Sánchez Flores not deeming the United man good enough to play regularly.

Hannibal has played a grand total of 89 minutes so far with the player’s entourage furious at his treatment after sporting director Victor Orta worked so hard to get him to the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium.

The coach removed him from the squad after a training dispute and despite being recalled, the Ivry-sur-Seine-born star has started only once and was not even subbed on in Sevilla’s last two games.

Los Nervionenses are struggling in 16th place and are in real danger of relegation and that might be a factor behind Flores’ stance of not handing minutes to youngsters like Hannibal and Alejo Véliz of Tottenham Hotspur.

AS have now reported that the 20-time English league champions are not too pleased with how the loan spell has panned out and are reportedly mulling over stopping all future deals with the Spanish outfit.

United not too pleased with Sevilla

“The until now practically sterile loans of Hannibal and Véliz could cause a problem for future loans from England to the Nervión club,” the report stated.

United had sent Alex Telles and Anthony Martial to Seville on loan in recent seasons and while a complete picture is yet to emerge, this ostracisation of a player the club battled to bring on loan seems strange to say the least.

The player has a violent streak and his mentality and ability to remain calm under pressure have been questioned but what exactly is going on seems difficult to comprehend.

Sevilla also have a buy option, which is unlikely to be triggered judging from these reports. Also, his United contract expires in 2025 and the player’s once-promising career seems to be fizzling out.

Hannibal Mejbri’s entourage have voiced their anger about his ongoing lack of playing time at Sevilla.

The Manchester United loanee’s season began with a bang, getting opportunities in the first team squad and scoring a world class strike against Brighton in September.

However since the beginning of November, when he stared a Carabao Cup tie versus Newcastle, the player saw his minutes drastically reduced and he was sent out on loan to La Liga to find more game time.

However, the player made a disastrous start with a yellow card in the opening five minutes of his debut as his side slumped to a 5-1 defeat to Girona.

The Tunisian then got into an altercation with a teammate in training and was even briefly axed from the squad.

Since then, the player has barely featured, only taking part in four games for a combined 89 minutes since his winter move.

Resultingly, Spanish websiteESTADIODeportivo claim that they have been informed by sources close to Hannibal that they are desperately unhappy with how his loan move has turned out and question the decision-making of current Sevilla coach Quique Sánchez Flores.

“Hannibal Mejbri’s entourage have pointed out to ESTADIO Deportivo that they do not understand this lack of prominence in Sevilla FC and the ostracism to which Quique has subjected the footballer”.

His inner-circle “openly point out weaknesses in the coach’s approaches” and believe that the Tunisia international’s lack of first team football is “not explained”.

“They don’t understand Hannibal’s lack of opportunities” and this had led them to question Sevilla director, Victor Orta’s power.

“They consider that Hannibal Mejbri’s career is going backwards at Sevilla after this lack of minutes” and that the player will return to Manchester United “without having achieved the goal of growing in another league, which according to his circle, suited his playing style more”.

It has already been relayed by The Peoples Person that the Andalusian side will not be taking up the €18m option to buy the player in the summer due to his poor performances and their economic situation.

Sadly for the United academy product, with only nine games left and Sevilla a precarious six points from the relegation zone, it does not seem likely the player will gain the trust of the manager anytime soon.

The post Maxi Oyedele posts a cryptic message possibly alluding to his time on loan at Forest Green appeared first on Man United News And Transfer News | The Peoples Person.

]]>

Manchester United youngster, Maxi Oyedele, has posted a cryptic message on Instagram, likely in reference to his return to his parent club after a torrid loan spell at Forest Green.

The 19-year-old played an important part in the club’s FA Youth Cup victory in 2022, coming off the bench in the final versus Nottingham Forest.

The Salford-born player who represents Poland’s Under-21 team, had played eight out of 11 Premier League 2 games this season before he was sent out on loan to the League Two strugglers.

The youngster’s loan could not have gotten off to a worse start as The Green’s boss, Troy Deeney, left the club after just one day of the loanee’s stay.´

Oyedele played four games for the side from The New Lawn Stadium with a total of only 63 minutes on the pitch.

While there were no official reports of an ending to the Forest Green loan, the fact he is training with United and has played two games for the Under 21s this month, providing an assist in his side’s 2-4 loss at home to Derby, suggests he won’t be returning.

The new Forest Green coach’s comments allude to the fact that all was not rosy at the New Lawn. Steve Cotterill claimed after a game against Crawley Town in mid-February that “I think that Maxi has to do a lot more to get into the starting lineup. I didn’t feel as though there was enough productivity maybe from him in the second half”.

Subsequently, the player would fail to make the squad in the next four games before finally returning to Carrington.

This is the probable reason behind his latest Instagram post which is a picture of the player in action for United and simply reads “water under the bridge”.

A post shared by @maxioyedele

The phrase chosen by the player clearly suggests that there were issues during his loan, quite probably with the manager but that it has all been forgotten about now he is back at his parent club.

Interestingly, United star and former Youth Cup teammate of Oyedele, Kobbie Mainoo, also commented on the post with an image from the Sopranos TV show, portraying the main character Tony Soprano, with a beaming smile across his face.

This probably highlights the central midfielder’s happiness that his old academy midfield partner is back in Manchester. Another United youth product, Hannibal Mejbri, also commented “I like” and put a heart emoticon beside his words.

The Tunisian knows a thing or two about problems while being on loan as he was also exiled from the Sevilla squad before fighting his way back into contention and even earned a first start last weekend.

The Polish player will need to get his head down in anticipation of a more successful loan next season as he aims to progress towards the first team in the same way his fellow Youth Cup winners Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho have.

Manchester United loanee Hannibal Mejbri seemingly failed to make his mark and grab the opportunity presented to him as he made his first start for Sevilla in their 3-2 win against Real Sociedad on Saturday.

Hannibal left United to join Sevilla on loan last month but his time at the Andalusian outfit has been a disaster so far.

It was previously relayed that the midfielder had a lot to do before convincing manager Quique Sánchez Flores to give him a run of games.

Flores is thought to have issues with Hannibal’s attitude and wanted to knock him down a peg or two before fielding him.

In addition to all this, Hannibal was reportedly engaged in a bust-up with a senior teammate.

Sevilla have ruled out the possibility of triggering the €18m buy clause to permanently sign the Carrington academy graduate.

After his loan spell comes to an end, he’ll be allowed to make his way back to United. The Peoples Person covered a report which stated that the Red Devils have also made a decision to make the player available for transfer when the window opens.

Youssef En-Nesyri gave Sevilla a commanding two-goal lead in the space of 13 minutes and it looked like Flores’ side were on their way to a comfortable home victory.

Andre Silva halved the deficit just before the break from the penalty spot.

Sergio Ramos restored Sevilla’s two-goal advantage in the 65th minute to all but ensure Sociedad’s hopes of mounting a comeback were vanquished.

Brais Mendez grabbed another goal for the visitors in the dying embers of proceedings but it was a bit too late for Sociedad by then.

Hannibal featured for 53 minutes before being taken off for Suso.

The United loanee only managed 29 touches of the ball. He successfully delivered 13 of the 17 passes he attempted and had a pass accuracy of 76%.

The Tunisian made one key pass.

Hannibal failed to find his target on the one occasion he attempted to ping a long ball. He created one big chance and his only shot at goal was off-target.

He delved into six ground duels but came out on top just once. The 21-year-old was required to contest two challenges in the air. He won none of them.

Hannibal lost possession of the ball 11 times and was dribbled past once.

(Stats obtained from Sofascore)

After his display vs. Sociedad, it would be fair to say Hannibal still has a lot of work to do to convince Flores to hand him more minutes and starts.

Manchester United loanee, Hannibal Mejbri, could be in line to make his first start for Sevilla at the weekend, since joining on loan in January.

The Tunisian player has had a nightmare of a time so far in Spain, only playing 37 minutes over three league games.

The 21 year old made a decent start on his cameo, in spite of an early yellow card, playing 28 minutes on his debut.

However, things quickly turned sour for the United academy player when his coach, Quique Sanchez Flores, criticised his attitude and he was briefly exiled from the squad, before being recalled.

In addition, it was relayed that Hannibal had a bust up with a senior player in training and this had caused significant tension in the Andalusian club’s dressing room.

As a result, it was thought that both Sevilla and United were uninterested in keeping the player beyond the summer and would be happy to cut ties with him.

Consequently, the midfielder only spent eight minutes on the pitch in the whole month of February.

However, there may now seem to be a glimmer of hope for the Tunisia international.

Spanish paper MundoDeportivo claim that with “Djibril Sow out due to suspension, Hannibal can enjoy his first start for Sevilla this Saturday against Real Sociedad”.

“At least that is clear from the talk that Quique Sánchez Flores had this Wednesday with Boubakary Soumaré and the Tunisian player himself, a couple that can form the midfield of the Andalusian team, which has accumulated quite a few casualties in that position. Gudelj, Joan Jordán and Agoumé are not available”.

After a disastrous spell, the 21 year old will no doubt be chomping at the bit to take advantage of whatever playing time he can get.

Sevilla currently sit 15th in the table but after taking eight points from their last 15 available, including an impressive 1-0 win over Atletico Madrid, they have given themselves some breathing space from the drop zone.

It has been a challenging week for Manchester United’s array of young loanees and the loan experience in general has not been easy for many.

Will Fish at Hibernian and Radek Vitek are the two exceptions of United academy products that have grabbed their chance, or even been given one to show off their talents after their loan move.

Hannibal Mejbri started the season with increased minutes and scored a thunderous strike against Brighton in September. However that has certainly been the highlight of his club career to date.

The Tunisian barely featured for United after October and was sent out on loan to Sevilla. Speaking on the move, the 21 year old was clearly excited about the opportunity, praising the Spanish side’s project.

However, after falling out with teammates and not impressing the coach in training, Hannibal has rarely got off the bench for the Andalusian side, playing a total of 37 minutes over three La Liga games.

This has led to it being reported that Sevilla have no interest in activating the buy option they have or United in keeping him beyond the summer.

Moreover, it seems unlikely that United will get good money for him anywhere, or be persuaded to make him an integral member of their own first team squad, after six months of bench warming at such a critical stage in his career.

Another season that started with early promise but has fizzled out of late has been that of Alvaro Carreras.

The Spaniard started really well on loan at Granada getting numerous minutes but once the autumn got into full swing, he fell down the pecking order and was swiftly moved onto Benfica in Portugal.

The Galician left back has once again struggled for minutes and whilst not playing too badly when given a chance, he has been limited to 201 minutes of action, largely off the bench.

The defender was once again an unused sub in Benfica’s last game at the weekend against Portimonense.

Joe Hugill is another case of a young United loanee going out to experience professional football, but barely getting a kick.

The 2022 Youth Cup winner’s start could hardly have gone better when he scored on debut for Burton off the bench and racked up an assist in his next game.

Lately however, the striker’s appearances have been limited to half an hour off the bench, where he has hardly been able to influence the game at all.

The Youth Cup winning captain, Rhys Bennett, has also only managed one game for Stockport and that was a 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Tranmere.

An even more extreme case is the highly rated academy product, Dan Gore has only played one game for League One strugglers Port Vale. The midfielder was hooked off after 54 minutes in a 0-1 home loss to Portsmouth and has been missing in action since.

Finally, defensive midfielder, Maxi Oyedele, is another Carrington product that has been limited to brief cameos off the bench, making little to no impact in League Two for Forest Green.

Obviously, not everyone can have the success Amad Diallo had at Sunderland last season, where he won the PFA Fans Championship player of the year, where he scored 14 goals and provided four assists for the North-East side.

However, it is very worrying that very few of these highly-rated academy products can make any sort of impact at third and fourth division level.

Of course entering a new team is tough in January and especially in teams like Port Vale and Burton who are fighting for their lives in their respective divisions but it begs the questions, what is wrong with the club’s broken loan system.

The club rightly prides itself on its wonderful youth record, but that will only suffer if they cannot find a way to make loans more productive for the player and the club. Very few youngsters like Alejandro Garnacho or Kobbie Mainoo are good or lucky enough to break through right into the first team.

Of course some blame must lie with the players but arguably more must reside with the club, when time and time again players are sent on loan with little return for any of the interested parties.

Perhaps the club needs to rethink its approach and also reassess where they are sending their loan players to.

Stockport are fighting for promotion, so in the crucial spring months, may not want to rely on a 20 year old. As previously mentioned, Port Vale and Burton are fighting for their lives in the lower regions of their divisions. Forest Green also sit 23rd in League Two, so once again, they may not trust a 19 year old to hold their midfield together.

It might be prudent if the club chose teams who are more stable or have less at stake, who might be more prepared to blood youngsters and help foster their talent.

Sometimes, to the untrained eye, it feels the club just accepts anyone who will take them.

This is yet another issue that new part owners INEOS will have to try and rectify over the course of the next few years.
