Manchester United fell to a 0-1 defeat at Old Trafford to Arsenal in their 14th league defeat of the season. The result sees United stuck in eighth position, three points behind seventh with two matches left to contest.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Erik ten Hag praised his side’s reaction to Monday night’s mauling at Crystal Palace.

The recurring theme of the question and answer session was the massive injuries his team are suffering and Ten Hag opened up on the damage this has caused his side.

After an horrendous showing on Monday night, Casemiro was at fault for Arsenal’s goal as he lazily failed to get up to the rest of the team’s offside trap, gifting Kai Havertz oceans of space to pick out a cross for Leandro Trossard to bundle in from close range.

Responding to a question on why he played Casemiro again at centre back, Ten Hag said, “I didn’t have options. [Kambwala] was not fit, he was just returning from injury and not fit to start.”

When asked if Scott McTominay could be an option as he has been for Scotland in the past he claimed, “I haven’t seen it but what I heard was not always a success. I think he’s better in that advanced position, higher up the pitch.”

Ten Hag was then asked if being so positive after losing to Arsenal highlighted the state the club was in, to which he retorted, “it shouldn’t be like this. You’re absolutely right. But I return to all the problems we have. When you analyse the performance, you have to see that we were competitive, but not in the way we want of course.”

“We have to win every game but as a club we are not in a position and definitely not with this team with all the injuries we have.”

Elaborating further on the damage injuries have had to his teams progress he stated, “I am now two years here and only one time have I had a full group of players. You can’t progress a team when you have so many injuries, especially in a particular key area.”

“It’s like swimming with your hands on your back. You have to keep your head above the water level and that is what we are trying to do.”

The Red Devils currently occupy eighth place in the table which would mean the Europa Conference League would even beyond them. When asked about the how harmful no European football next season could be he claimed it would be very damaging to the club but stressed that the team still has the opportunity to secure it in spite of the massive problems they face.

Ten Hag did mention two positive issues from the game, the first being the performance of Amad Diallo. When asked about giving the player his first start of the season he said, “I think Amad deserved it.”

The coach claimed that there was much competition in that area of the pitch with Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Marcus Rashford all having minutes on the right, but he was impressed with what he saw from the Ivorian. “He played very well. He was brave, he was creative, he defended very well. We were pleased with his performance,” Ten Hag stated.

Finally, like Monday night, the Dutchman praised the support that the fans showed the team in challenging circumstances: “They understand the situation we are in. Today from the first to the final whistle they were behind us and they see what the problems are and that the team needs backing. So we are united and this is very good.”

If United are to have any chance of salvaging European football, at least from a league position, they need to defeat Newcastle United at Old Trafford on Wednesday night. There is still the prospect of securing Europa League qualification with an FA Cup win against Manchester City but the trajectories of the two teams suggest this will be an incredibly challenging objective.

Manchester United winger Amad Diallo has given an injury update after he was taken off during the club’s 1-0 loss against Arsenal.

United fell to a 20th-minute Leandro Trossard goal. Despite their best efforts, Erik ten Hag’s men couldn’t get a share of the spoils and were eventually handed their second consecutive defeat.

The shock inclusion in the starting XI was Amad Diallo. Many expected that either Antony or the just-returned Marcus Rashford would start.

However, Ten Hag gave the nod to Amad and the Ivorian did not disappoint.

He won 100% of his tackles and successfully delivered all the long balls he attempted. He also won six of the 13 ground duels he delved into.

Amad’s participation in the match was cut short in the 68th minute as he sustained what seemed like a knee injury.

The winger hit the floor as he appeared in pain. He signalled to the bench that he couldn’t carry on and was soon replaced by Antony.

Considering United’s unfortunate luck with injuries this season, it’s understandable that fans were concerned by the possibility that Amad could potentially be ruled out until the end of the season.

However, according to the forward himself, it’s nothing serious and there’s a chance he could be back in action very soon.

Amad took to X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, “The knee to knee in the first half bothered me in the second half.”

“Otherwise I’m fine.”

The update will come as very encouraging news to supporters, especially considering there are still three crucial games left until the campaign concludes.

Up next for the 20-time English champions is Newcastle United before facing Brighton on the final day of the season. There is then the small matter of the FA Cup against Manchester City at Wembley.

Manchester United were beaten 1-0 by Arsenal at Old Trafford to all but dash the Reds’ hopes of Europa League qualification through a league finish.

A Leandro Trossard goal in the 20th minute of proceedings was all it took to seal United’s fate and pile further misery on Erik ten Hag and his players.

United had the lion’s share of possession (55%) compared to Arsenal (45%).

The Red Devils registered just two shots on target from their total 14 cracks at goal. The Gunners on the other hand had 11 total shots, with five of these requiring Andre Onana to swing into action.

Ten Hag’s men put together 513 passes with a pass completion rate of 86%. Meanwhile, Arsenal strung 430 passes with a success rate of 83%.

One of United’s better performers was Amad Diallo. The forward was the surprise inclusion in Ten Hag’s starting XI, with many expecting Antony or the just-returned Marcus Rashford to be given the nod instead.

During the time he was on the pitch, Amad successfully won all the two tackles he put in.

The Ivorian also found his intended target with all two of the long balls he pinged. The winger delivered 23 of the 25 passes he attempted, registering an individual ass accuracy of 92%.

He won six of the 13 ground duels he delved into.

Amad completed three of the five dribbles he embarked on – the most of any player on the pitch. He also created two chances.

Unfortunately for Amad, he picked up an injury in the 68th minute which forced him off.

However, he still made his point to Ten Hag that he deserved significantly more playing time going forward – at least ahead of someone like Antony.

Manchester United hosted Arsenal at Old Trafford in another high-stakes Premier League clash, considering both sides needed a victory.

Arsenal required all three points to ensure the Premier League is decided on the final day of the season while a triumph for United would go a long way in cementing the side’s ambitions of clinching European football.

Erik ten Hag started Andre Onana in goal with a defensive four of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Casemiro, Jonny Evans and Diogo Dalot ahead of the Cameroonian.

Kobbie Mainoo and Sofyan Amrabat formed the pivot with Scott McTominay the most advanced midfielder in the starting XI. Rasmus Hojlund led the line with Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo on either side of him.

Here are three things we learned from Manchester United’s 1-0 loss against Arsenal.

Casemiro finished at United

Casemiro is one of the many players who should be axed by United during the summer transfer window and he showed again in the Arsenal game why he should be one of the first names out the door.

Amidst United’s injury crisis in the defensive department, the Brazilian has filled in at centre-back but it’s a role he’s spectacularly failed in.

He was badly exposed and embarrassed at Selhurst Park last week and the same thing happened again vs. the Gunners.

Casemiro played a big part in Arsenal’s opening goal in the 20th minute. A ball was put inside the box by Kai Havertz, prompting an alert Leandro Trossard to make a darting run into the near post before putting it into the back of the net.

However, the goal could have been easily avoided. Most of Ten Hag’s men pushed up the pitch in an attempt to play Havertz offside. However, Casemiro – who has been accused of losing one or two yards of pace – was lazy in getting up the pitch and played the German forward onside.

Casemiro could have also blocked Havertz’s cross but in keeping up with how his season has panned out, he failed to do so and allowed Trossard to bury his effort.

Wayne Rooney, who was on Sky Sports said about Trossard’s opening strike, “Casemiro has to get up the pitch.”

Roy Keane even went ahead to question Casemiro’s professionalism as he remarked, “Casemiro has to sprint out. I don’t know what he was doing. He doesn’t even need to make a silly angle for the goalkeeper.”

“You don’t have to be 100 per cent sprinting, but get up the pitch! This game is hard enough, you have to do the basics right and he hasn’t done the basics right. An experienced player gets up the pitch.”

It’s these kinds of instances that have plagued Casemiro all season and highlight why United should do everything in their power to part ways with the 32-year-old and bring in an upgrade. He’s past his best now and is increasingly becoming a liability to the team.

Ten Hag’s snubbing of Amad more puzzling than ever before

Amad was arguably one of United’s better performers across both halves.

He did well in his favoured right flank and provided the threat United have been sorely missing on that flank of the pitch.

The Ivorian kept the ball well, maintained possession and recycled it whenever required. Seemingly aware of the danger he posed, Arsenal sometimes double-teamed against him to keep him at bay.

Amad consistently seized the opportunity to take on his opponent and penetrate the box, showcasing remarkable versatility by attacking from both the inside and outside. In contrast, Antony has frequently shown a tendency to favour the outer flank, persistently opting to cut in on his left foot instead of exploiting the advantageous option of hitting the byline.

To put into context how brilliant Amad was, he completed more dribbles (3) than the entire Arsenal team combined (2) in the first half.

Amad’s display made it even more puzzling why Ten Hag hasn’t handed him significantly more minutes this season. The former Sunderland loanee clearly has the skill set to play the brand of football the Dutchman wants to implement at the club.

Unfortunately for Amad, he limped off in the 68th minute as he appeared to have sustained an injury. Before that, he hit the floor in pain and signalled to the bench that he couldn’t continue.

He was replaced by Antony who saw off the rest of the match.

Too little too late for Ten Hag

United were not hammered as everyone expected. In fact, the Red Devils competed and gave a decent account of themselves considering how events have panned out this season.

One cannot help but think that if Ten Hag had resorted to the kind of shape and tactics he employed against Arsenal, maybe United would have found some more joy and would perhaps be competing for a top-four finish.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS associates were present at Old Trafford to watch the team and while they may have taken some positives from the display, it may already be too late for Ten Hag.

The defeat at the hands of Arsenal means that United are almost certainly set to miss out on Europa League football unless they can somehow manage to beat Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley later this month.

Manchester United suffered their 13th Premier League defeat of the Premier League season as they were battered 4-0 by an in-form Crystal Palace side.

In yet another game, Erik ten Hag’s men performed below the expected standards and were harshly punished for their mistakes.

Palace’s goals were grabbed by Michael Olise who got a superb brace, with Jean-Philippe Mateta and Tyrick Mitchell also finding the back of the net.

United had the lion’s share of possession (58%) but did nothing with it. They only managed two shots on target from their total seven cracks at goal. In comparison, the Eagles registered 18 total shots, with 10 of these requiring Andre Onana to swing into action.

The Red Devils put together 591 passes with a success rate of 84%. Palace on the other hand made 430 passes with a pass accuracy of 81%.

At Selhurst Park, the majority of United’s stars produced poor performances, with Antony epitomising the team’s shocking display in the match.

That he was included in the starting XI in itself raised eyebrows, considering how awful he’s been in the past few games. Most supporters feel that Amad Diallo, who has shown promise when given opportunities from the bench, deserves to be ahead of the ineffective Antony in the pecking order.

To highlight just how poor Antony was vs. Palace, he was taken off in the 60th minute for Sofyan Amrabat, a defensive midfielder.

Antony managed to deliver 13 of the pitiful 19 passes he attempted. The Brazilian had 27 touches of the ball to his name.

He failed to make a single key pass or cross.

The one shot the 24-year-old managed was off-target and didn’t at all trouble Dean Henderson between the sticks.

Antony embarked on two dribbles but failed to complete any of them. He was locked down. He attempted to make two tackles but none was successful.

The winger won just three of the seven ground duels he delved into and lost the one aerial challenge he was required to contest. He also lost possession of the ball on eight occasions.

(Extra stats obtained from Sofascore)

Ahead of the summer, United must start to plan for life without Antony. He simply offers nothing and seems to be taking up a place for a teammate who probably deserves it more.

The post Amad Diallo changes agent ahead of busy summer window at Manchester United appeared first on Man United News And Transfer News | The Peoples Person.

]]>

Manchester United starlet, Amad Diallo, has reportedly changed agents in advance of a likely busy summer at Old Trafford. Interestingly, it is the same agent as fellow United star, Alejandro Garnacho.

The 21 year old has once again struggled to get meaningful game time despite seeing an uptick in minutes over the last month.

The Ivorian enjoyed a Roy of the Rovers moment in March when he was put through on goal and calmly slotted past Caoimhin Kelleher to give United an epic FA Cup quarter final victory over Liverpool in the final seconds of the encounter.

Nonetheless, Diallo has still only played eight matches this season, with a combined minutes total of 233.

Frustratingly for the player, he has not made a start for the club since 2021 and the most time he has spent on the pitch has been the 45 minutes he was given against Bournemouth after replacing Alejandro Garnacho at half-time.

After playing so much last season where he was crucial in Sunderland’s fine efforts to be promoted back to the Premier League, a season of injury and lack of game time will no doubt be incredibly frustrating for the youngster.

This is probably compounded even more when it is considered how poor United’s wing play has been. Alejandro Garnacho has enjoyed a successful second season in the first team but has been erratic at times owing to only being 19 years old.

Antony and Marcus Rashford have been incredibly disappointing outside the rare moment of magic and Mason Greenwood and Jadon Sancho have been impressing abroad, on loan at Getafe and Borussia Dortmund respectively.

Therefore, with numerous players potentially heading for the exit door this summer, Diallo could well be one of them.

The Daily Mail report that “Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo may be competing for a place on the wing at United, but Confidential understands that Amad has just signed with Garnacho’s agent Carlos Cambeiro.”

The paper goes on to state that “it is very much possible that Amad could fall into the bracket of transfer-listed players after being overlooked so often by manager Erik ten Hag during the 2023-24 campaign.”

No doubt his former side Sunderland would be heavily interested in the talented winger and they have previously been linked with trying to bring back the player on loan.

Amad has spoken in the past about how happy and proud he is to play for the club but it is unlikely he has infinite patience.

In addition, there have been some moments in the season when fans have speculated about the player’s happiness at the club. He deleted all his social media posts about the club earlier in the year but he has since stated it was for religious reasons, to focus on Ramadan.

The player also posted a rather cryptic social media post after United’s frustrating draw with Bournemouth referencing alleged player unrest with the manager.

Many have felt that Ten Hag has consistently shown favouritism to certain players, such as Antony and Rashford, in spite of their poor form, which has left Amad on the outside looking in.

What is clear is that the more time passes, the longer his career will stagnate and decisive action must be taken on his part or that of the club. Perhaps the changing of agents is a clear sign that the Ivorian has accepted he will never get the chances he is looking for at Old Trafford.

Manchester United will barely have any new reinforcements to alleviate their injury-riddled squad as only Mason Mount is likely to be fit in time to make the bench against Burnley.

Despite the lack of available players and moments of shakiness, United were able to eventually find a way to defeat Sheffield United on Wednesday night as Bruno Fernandes inspired them to a 4-2 win.

The game is still expected to come too early for Marcus Rashford who has once again hit the headlines for speaking out on the perceived abuse he has suffered this campaign.

Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans, Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia and Anthony Martial are all still sidelined.

However, there has been some good news on that front as Erik ten Hag announced in his pre-match press conference that Martinez, Shaw and Martial have started outdoor training and are scheduled to resume team training next week.

He said, “I think we will see Shaw, Martinez and Martial all in the season. They progress well.”

With so many injuries still at the club, it is fully expected that there will be quite a few youth players on the bench, including Ethan Wheatley who made history midweek by becoming the 250th academy graduate to make his debut for the Old Trafford side.

Taking all this into account, we believe that Andre Onana will obviously take up his usual position between the sticks.

The Red Devils have little choice but to field Harry Maguire and Casemiro as the centre back pairing. Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot are the only fit senior full backs so the only real question is who will start on which flank.

Wan-Bissaka will most likely take up his role on the right with Dalot switching to the left due to his greater ability to adapt to his his weaker side.

One of the shining lights of the season, Kobbie Mainoo will keep his regular place while McTominay’s likely unavailability will allow Christian Eriksen to enjoy a rare consecutive starts.

Despite Mount’s return, it is highly improbable he would be thrown straight back into the starting line up, so we can expect Wednesday’s hero, Bruno Fernandes to start as the attacking midfielder.

The striker is also clear as Rasmus Hojlund will aim to build on his return to goalscoring form and Alejandro Garnacho will surely start once more on the left, with Rashford being sidelined.

The only doubt is whether Ten Hag will persist with Antony, who once more was poor against Sheffield United.

Ten Hag has also spoken out on giving Amad Diallo more chances and after impressing in a 35 minute cameo midweek, we predict that he will finally get his chance to start, for the first time since 2021.

With possession-based football likely to be on show once again, the Ivorian could hold the key as his combination play could help United get past a deep block.

Manchester United winger Antony struggled in yet another game, this time as the club won 4-2 against Sheffield United at Old Trafford.

United produced a superb performance across both halves and demonstrated resilience to come back twice and eventually go on to secure the win and clinch all three points.

Goals from Harry Maguire, a Bruno Fernandes brace and a fourth strike in the 85th minute from Rasmus Hojlund were enough to see United emerge victorious vs. the Blades, who were obviously keen on causing a massive upset.

With Marcus Rashford injured and not part of the matchday squad, Ten Hag decided to start Antony in his favoured right-wing position while tasking Alejandro Garnacho with playing on the left.

Despite not getting on the score sheet, Garnacho was brilliant but the same can’t be said of his teammate Antony.

The Brazilian struggled to make an impact in the game and apart from a few combinations with Aaron Wan-Bissaka that helped United maintain possession, didn’t offer much.

Antony was not at all a goal threat and hardly ever showed a willingness to take on his man. Another frustrating element of his game was his preference to always cut on and look for a shot with his left foot even in instances where going on the outside or hitting the byline were far better options.

He was very uninspiring and it was not a shock that he was the first to be taken off by Erik ten Hag before the hour mark. He was replaced by Amad Diallo, who was far better and made a difference in the team.

Antony registered a personal pass completion rate of 83% while United as a team had a pass accuracy of 89%.

The 24-year-old lost six of the ground duels he delved into. He was also dribbled past on two occasions by rival Sheffield United players.

Antony failed to register a shot on target or to challenge Foderingham.

He had 55 total touches of the ball and only completed two of the four dribbles he embarked on. The South American forward lost possession 13 times.

(Additional stats obtained from Sofascore)

Going forward, it’s important that Ten Hag stick with Amad rather than waste away the Ivorian on the bench while Antony continues to receive underserved playing time.

Manchester United looked to put the embarrassment of their capitulation in the FA Cup semi-final vs. Coventry City behind them when they hosted Premier League strugglers Sheffield United at Old Trafford.

With so many absentees within the ranks due to injuries, Ten Hag started Andre Onana in goal with a defensive four of Diogo Dalot, Casemiro, Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka ahead of the Cameroonian.

Scott McTominay dropped out of the team and was replaced by Christian Eriksen, who partnered Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes in midfield.

Rasmus Hojlund led the line with Antony and Alejandro Garnacho on either side of him. Marcus Rashford was not part of the matchday squad due to a physical setback. Here are three things we learned from Manchester United’s 4-2 win against Sheffield United.

Dominant first-half performance

United were easily the dominant side in the opening 45 minutes and the side would have felt slightly disappointed to head down the tunnel with the score at 1-1.

Ten Hag’s men had the lion’s share of possession (83%) and controlled proceedings while mostly limiting the Blades to rare and unfruitful overtures at Onana’s goal.

United only faced three shots, with two of these being on target. In comparison, the Sheffield goalkeeper, Foderingham, faced 17 shots and was required to immediately intervene on seven separate occasions.

Despite being in the driving seat, United were sucker punched in the 35th minute. Onana’s poor ball to Dalot was intercepted by Jayden Bogle, who made no mistake from close range to give his team the lead.

However, the Red Devils were not shaken or fazed as has largely been the case all season. They maintained their calm and composure and got their reward just seven minutes later via Maguire. The England international headed in the ball to restore parity. Maguire’s goal means that he also now scored in back-to-back matches for the first time in his Old Trafford career – the defender’s renaissance tour continues.

Garnacho had two clear-cut opportunities to score when through on goal but in both instances, the Argentine winger was foiled by Foderingham. Eriksen and Fernandes also had a few sights at goal between them, as did Mainoo.

Defensively, United were solid and had an answer for almost every question Chris Wilder’s men asked of them. Maguire and Casemiro were solid as a unit and didn’t let the rival forwards get any joy.

Earlier today, a report covered by The Peoples Person suggested that possession-based football is the way the United owners led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his key men like Dave Brailsford and newly-appointed technical director Jason Wilcox want to play moving forward.

If the report holds true and Ten Hag has indeed been directed to implement this strategy, evident in the match against Sheffield, fans might be in for an exciting shift from the chaotic scenes they’ve grown accustomed to this season.

Amad should clearly be ahead of Antony in the pecking order

In yet another game, Antony failed to justify his inclusion in the starting XI. Against Coventry last weekend, he came on from the bench and did next to nothing during the time he was on the pitch.

In fact, he courted controversy and became the topic of ridicule and criticism when he elected to cup his ears at the Coventry stars after Hojlund’s winning penalty.

With Rashford out, Ten Hag’s decision was to either pick Amad or the ineffective Brazilian once more. The United boss opted for the latter and it blew up in his face.

Apart from some little combinations with Wan-Bissaka on the right flank to help the team keep possession, Antony didn’t offer much else. Not to say that he made a mistake or anything like that but considering his price tag and the expectations on his shoulder, more is expected of him. It was not a surprise that the 24-year-old was the first to be taken off just before the hour mark.

Contrast Antony’s uninspiring display to Amad’s when the Ivorian was thrust into the proceedings. Amad contributed more to United against Sheffield than his teammate. He retained the ball well and looked like a threat any time he got on it.

Amad also displayed a willingness to go on the outside or hit the byline, contrary to Antony whose preference is to always cut inside to attempt to cut in and get a shot away on his left foot.

Another aspect of Amad’s play that was very noticeable was his movement, both on and off the ball. He wasn’t at all static. The forward was constantly on the move – something which helped stretch the Sheffield backline and open up spaces for the rest to exploit. This was very helpful considering just how deep the Blades positioned themselves.

It was not lost on many people just how much the forward line function as a cohesive unit with Amad in there. He makes it all tick.

Amad brings much more to the table compared to Antony – a fact that continues to be proven to be true with each passing game. There is little benefit to be gained in giving Antony significantly more minutes at his expense.

Fernandes hitting form at the right time for United

United captain Fernandes registered a brace against Sheffield and it was a crucial double from the club’s perspective. His first was an equaliser for the 20-time English champions, who had gone behind again just five minutes after the break.

Fernandes then produced a thunderbolt strike in the 81st minute, which turned it around for United and gave them a much-deserved lead.

The Portuguese playmaker didn’t finish there as he also registered an assist for Hojlund’s goal and fourth for United against Sheffield.

Fernandes is hitting form at just the right time for United, while the club is vying for a Europa League spot. Courtesy of Newcastle’s loss at the hands of Crystal Palace, United are now back in sixth position in the Premier League.

The United skipper has scored or registered 26 goals this season.

To put into context how on-fire he has been, the 29-year-old has more goal contributions to his name than Kevin de Bruyne and Martin Odegaard.

In United’s last eight games, Fernandes has scored eight times and has also managed three assists. During a tumultuous period for the club, he is once again showing why he is the main man and the team’s undisputed leader.

Manchester United forward Amad Diallo has warned his teammates that they’re in for a tough battle as they prepare to take on second-division rivals Coventry City this weekend.

United are set to make their way to Wembley to meet Mark Robins’ Coventry in the semi-final of the FA Cup on Sunday.

Amid a very disappointing campaign that currently has the Red Devils in seventh position in the Premier League after 12 top-flight defeats, lifting the FA Cup currently represents the last chance for Erik ten Hag and his players to restore some of the lost pride.

The Dutchman himself has said on several occasions that the FA Cup is do or die courtesy of how events have panned out this season.

Winning the domestic competition could also go a long way in boosting the 54-year-old’s claim to remain in the Old Trafford dugout even as uncertainties persist over his long-term future as manager of the club.

Needless to say, United will be heading into the game as heavy favourites compared to Coventry, who will almost certainly have to pull off something special to book their progress in the final.

However, Ten Hag will undoubtedly be wary of the threat posed by Robins’ side, who completed a dramatic comeback against Wolves in the quarter-final stage.

Amad Diallo, whose last-minute strike against Liverpool secured United a semi-final spot, spoke to club media and explained that Coventry are not to be taken lightly despite being Championship opposition.

The Ivorian, who played against Coventry last term while on loan at the Stadium of Light also noted a potential reunion with his former Sunderland teammate Ellis Simms.

Looking ahead to the clash, Amad said, “We are excited to play that game against Coventry. “I will meet Ellis Simms, who was my team-mate, the striker. I think my team-mates are ready for that game. We hope to win it and go to the final.”

“It was an unbelievable day for me after that goal [in the quarter-final]. I scored the last-minute goal, against a big team like Liverpool, so I was happy. It gives me a lot of confidence after that goal. I trained every day in training to be ready for every game so I was ready for that game. If I play, or I don’t play, every time, I am ready on the bench. I was excited and that goal gave me so much confidence.”

On his last meeting vs. Coventry, he added, “I remember we lost that game 2-1 but I scored a last-minute goal.”

“They are a young team, Coventry and a very exciting team. I don’t know which team they’ve had this season but I remember, last season, they had a very young team and the striker Viktor Gyokeres, who went to Sporting. They’re a very strong team, who play football and attack and just attack.”

The winger insisted that there are no excuses going forward and at this stage of the season, United will need to win every game.
