Keeping in mind Profit and Sustainability rules, Manchester United first need to focus on moving players on before they can begin their recruitment spree in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Quite a few big-name players as well as fringe players are expected to be moved on as part of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s clearout and that includes Brandon Williams.

He was expected to spend the season out on loan at Ipswich Town, under former United coach Kieran Mckenna, who could help the 23-year-old regain the form he showed which kept Luke Shaw out of the first team at one point.

But that has not panned out partly due to injuries but there have been numerous off-field controversies which hint at wider issues plaguing the youngster.

Brandon’s difficulties off the field

The United academy graduate was caught inhaling laughing gas and was involved in a major car crash which subsequently saw him get banned from driving.

He played 15 games in the first half of the Championship season but did not play since December and returned to Manchester for rehabilitation and the expectation was he would head back to Ipswich soon. But that never materialised.

With his contract set to end in June, Football Insider have now claimed that the Red Devils are prepared to release the versatile full-back on a free.

“Brandon Williams is set to leave Manchester United this summer after he was told he is free to find a new club, sources have told Football Insider.

“The full-back is out of contract at the end of June having spent the season on loan at Ipswich Town as they secured promotion from the Championship.

“With Williams’ contract set to run out this summer and no new deal on the horizon, he will have to begin searching for new clubs, with his current loan club Ipswich also looking unlikely to extend his deal beyond this season.”

A lot was expected from the England U21 international after a stunning breakthrough campaign in 19/20 under then-manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Legendary right-back Gary Neville was full of praise for his fighting spirit and the player cemented his place in the subsequent campaign with another solid showing.

It was felt that the Crumpsall-born player would go on to cement his place in the first team moving forward and he was also awarded a massive pay rise with the player earning £65,000 per week (as per capology), another example of Glazers’ ineptitude while handing out contracts.

United decide to cut ties

However, a failed loan spell at Norwich City in the subsequent campaign and injuries meant he played only one game last season under Erik ten Hag.

After a few errors in pre-season and despite the left-back crisis, the club decided the United academy graduate was better suited joining the Tractor Boys on loan.

And these ever-growing off-field issues have not been taken too kindly by the 20-time English league champions who want to clean their image now that INEOS are onboard.

Williams needs to get back to focussing on improving his game so as to earn a new deal at some other club. He certainly has the potential.

Manchester United’s Brandon Williams has been banned from driving after accumulating 30 points on his licence.

The fullback has been on loan at promotion-chasing Ipswich Town this season but he has not played since December.

It was reported earlier in the season that he had picked up an injury and had been sent back to Carrington to recover from the setback.

The beginning of February saw reports that he would be returning to East Anglia shortly but this never came to pass.

It has been a disappointing season for the 23-year-old as he has only played a meagre 17 games for the Tractor Boys.

Things turned even sourer for him when he was accused of dangerous driving just before Easter.

Prosecutors alleged that the 23-year-old was driving his Audi A3 S Line car at speeds over 90mph on the A34, before being involved in an accident at a speed of 74mph.

The United man was given a lifeline by his coach, Kieran McKenna shortly after when he claimed that the player could still play a role in Ipswich’s crucial run-in but once more, this has failed to occur.

Williams’ future is even murkier now that he has been found guilty of the charges against him.

The Mirror report that “Manchester United defender Brandon Williams has been banned from driving after accumulating 30 points on his licence.”

Williams “failed to provide officers with information regarding who was driving his top-of-the-range Mercedes on two separate occasions, a court hearing heard.”

“He failed to turn up for a hearing at Manchester Magistrates Court on Friday morning and was sentenced in absence.

“The court heard that Williams had already racked up 18 points on his licence and he was fined £1,000 with a £400 court surcharge and costs of £85.

“Williams was handed a disqualification last year which was subsequently lifted, with these two further charges taking him to 30 points.”

With persistent problems off the field and recurring injury issues, a once-promising career seems to be fizzling out as fast as it took off when he made his debut for the Mancunian side back in 2019.

Manchester United defender Brandon Williams will face a trial next year after pleading not guilty to accusations of driving dangerously before a high speed crash last August.

Williams appeared in Chester Crown court today (Friday) to be given his trial date which will be March 17 2025, and is expected to last three days.

As reported by The Sun, the defender is accused of dangerous driving in his Audi S Line on the A34 dual carriageway Wilmslow bypass in Cheshire, as well as driving without insurance.

Dressed in a dark suit, Williams pleaded “not guilty” to the both charges and has been granted unconditional bail.

The court heard that Williams’s defence team would be instructing experts to give evidence on his behalf and there would be a recording of a 999 call, as well as items recovered from the scene.

Williams is currently on loan at Championship-toppers Ipswich Town but hasn’t featured in 2024 due to injury.

The 23-year-old fullback has returned to United to complete his recovery and it’s unlikely he will feature in the important run-in for Keiran McKenna’s side.

Ipswich are currently a point clear at the top of the Championship table and two clear of Leeds in third, in what is a fascinating battle for promotion to the Premier League.

Since breaking into the first team under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Williams has gone onto make 51 appearances for United but failed to nail down a regular spot in the team.

He spent the 2021/22 season on loan with Norwich, making 26 appearances for The Canaries and does look a decent fit at Championship level.

Ironically, given United’s injury plagued season, particularly at left-back, had Williams stayed at Old Trafford, he might have had the chance to chalk up some meaningful minutes for his boyhood side.

However, United are expected to go into the market in the summer and the full-back’s long term future is likely to lie away from Old Trafford.

Ipswich boss, Kieran McKenna, has claimed that he is still open to Brandon Williams returning to Portman Road to finish his loan spell at the club.

The 23 year old broke into the Manchester United first team way back in 2019 under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and even played in a Europa League semi-final defeat to Sevilla as he made an impressive 36 appearances for the first team that year.

However, the player has never kicked on since and has been injured and loaned out to numerous clubs.

Williams had started off well on loan to Ipswich this season, even scoring a couple of well-taken goals.

However, a series of injuries meant the player’s game time was significantly reduced and he returned to his parent club in January.

Things have gone from bad to worse for the full back as he has been charged with causing a car crash in November last year.

He has been accused of driving his Audi A3 S Line car at speeds over 90mph on the A34, before being involved in an accident at a speed of 74mph.

The prosecution also alleges Williams was seen inhaling laughing gas prior to the crash. “He was seen by witnesses to have taken nitrous oxide from balloons”.

Williams denies responsibility for the crash and that he was driving under the influence.

However, there may be a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel for the United fullback.

Former United coach and Ipswich boss, Mckenna, has kept the door ajar for a possible return to Portman Road.

The East Anglian Daily Times report that the Northern Irishman claimed, “the situation hasn’t really changed in that it’s out of our hands”.

“Brandon’s a Man United player, he’s been back at Man United for the last few months and there has to be a certain level of readiness for him to come back here and be ready to contribute”.

“If he doesn’t reach that readiness before the end of the season, then he won’t return. If he was able to reach that readiness, then it would be another option for us towards the end of the season”.

“He’s a player who doesn’t belong to our club, as such, so it’s a matter for Man United at the moment.”

McKenna and Williams would have spent a few years together at Old Trafford, so he is perhaps fortunate that the coach will likely have greater patience with his antics than most due to their history together.

The defender, who was so highly praised in 2019, has declined massively and his career is already in freefall. Therefore, if he can somehow find a way to get back into high-flying Ipswich’s plans, he can consider himself very lucky indeed.

One gets the feeling that the player cannot afford to throw away many more opportunities, even only being 23 years old.

Manchester United defender Brandon Williams will learn the outcome of an investigation into his car crash in November after a court date was set for April 19.

The academy graduate, currently on loan at Ipswich Town, has been at United since 2008. He made his debut for the senior side in September 2019 against Rochdale, going on to make 51 appearances for the club.

Williams’ progress has stalled in recent years, however.

He was sent on loan to Norwich City in 2021/22, playing regularly for the Canaries in the Premier League at left-back, though they were ultimately relegated at the end of the season.

Injuries have hampered the academy graduate since his return to Old Trafford.

He was loaned to Ipswich last summer, with former United coach Keiran McKenna now the manager of the Championship club, and was featuring regularly until another injury problem halted this resurgence.

The defender returned to Carrington to complete his rehabilitation from this setback, where he currently remains.

In August, Williams was involved in a car crash along the A34 road in Wilmslow, Chesire.

During the proceedings on Friday at the magistrates court in Crewe, prosecutors allege the 23-year-old was driving his Audi A3 S Line car at speeds over 90mph on the A34, before being involved in an accident at a speed of 74mph.

The prosecution also alleges Williams was seen inhaling laughing gas prior to the crash. “He was seen by witnesses to have taken nitrous oxide from balloons,” the prosecutor, Katie Johnson, revealed.

Williams denies the charge of dangerous driving and denies being responsible for the crash. He also denies being impaired and that he had no insurance at the time of the incident.

Magistrates sent the case for trial at Chester Crown Court with a hearing date set for April 19. Williams has been granted unconditional bail until then.

Despite Manchester United’s recent resurgence in form, the squad still lacks adequate depth and is in need of reinforcements come the summer transfer window.

INEOS will be in charge by then and the summer is promising to be a game-changer in the short-term at least as new plans will be set in motion backed by competent people behind-the-scenes for the first time.

A new CEO is already in place and there are plans to recruit a new sporting director and head of recruitment once the ratification process is completed.

Despite the upturn in form, manager Erik ten Hag’s future remains far from secure and the new incoming personnel will take a call on the Dutchman.

INEOS to take the call

The current administration are also delaying the decisions with regards to the futures of several first-team stars whose contracts are set to expire in June.

A raft of one-year options have been triggered in contracts of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof even though they are meant mainly to protect the player’s value.

The most high-profile player whose stay could be coming to an end is Raphael Varane with the club deciding against triggering the option due to his enormous wages.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants to trim the wage bill and if an adequate replacement can be sourced, the Frenchman’s stay could be coming to an end as Al Nassr prepare a mouthwatering offer.

“Manchester United want to wait before deciding on whether to offer Raphael Varane a new contract,” The Manchester Evening News pointed out.

“It is understood United partly want to delay a decision amid planned structural and personnel changes as the Ineos Group prepares to complete its 25% stakeholding in the club.”

Overhaul in motion

Another star whose deals ends at the end of the current season is Jonny Evans. Signed mainly as a backup, the Northern Irishman has played more than he could have hoped for due to the injury crisis at the club.

Ten Hag has suitably been impressed with what the academy graduate has to offer and is in favour of another one-year deal.

But INEOS will decide all of this and Scott McTominay’s future. The super-sub’s deal ends next year but United do have the option of extending it by a year.

Other players whose deals end include Tom Heaton, who was kept on in the summer despite plenty of interest, and Brandon Williams who is out on loan at Ipswich Town.

]]>

Manchester United have had an incredibly busy winter window, sending many more players out on loan.

The best XI out of all the loanees now contains a lot of names who have played in the senior team, but how would they fare if they were assembled as a unit?

The Keeper

In nets stands the giant frame of Radek Vitek. The 2022 Youth Cup winner has made a fine start to life at Accrington Stanley, keeping two clean sheets from his first three games. However, as he is playing in League Two, it is hard to argue that his level is currently any higher than this. Despite his form, three games are not a big enough sample size to declare the Czech under 20 keeper as too good for the league.

The defence

The defence consists of Alvaro Carreras, Will Fish, Rhys Bennett and Brandon Williams. There is no question that Carreras has been playing at the highest level of the four, as he was on loan at Granada and he is now playing for Benfica after a January move. The young Spaniard has also proven his worth in the Championship last season with Preston.

Fish has also played very consistently and he is one of the first names on the team sheet for Hibernian in the Scottish Premier League. However, it must be noted that the level of the SPL is significantly below that of La Liga or the Liga Portugal.

Rhys Bennett is on loan at Stockport in League Two but he has yet to play for the side and Brandon Williams has put on an Ipswich shirt 17 times this season. However, he has recently been suffering injuries and he has missed most of the winter schedule.

Overall, the defence is a mix of talent but does have two players who could say they can compete at least Championship standard. The inclusion of Bennett and the uncertainty of the quality of the Scottish Premier League makes this defence a strong League One level, with Carreras evidently being far too good for this level.

The midfield

The midfield trio consists of Dan Gore, Donny van de Beek and Hannibal Mejbri. Gore is currently on loan at Port Vale in League One but he has only made one appearance, so it is hard to tell yet if he is good enough for this level.

Hannibal already has a successful loan spell at Birmingham in the Championship and has now begun life in Sevilla in La Liga. However, he has had a tumultuous start to life by picking up two yellow cards and doing little else for his new side.

In fact, there was a fiasco where he was not included in the squad for reportedly not understanding what it means to be a Sevilla player, before being hurriedly included hours later. Nonetheless, there is no evidence that the Tunisian is above Championship level.

Then, there is the curious case of Donny van de Beek. A player who was deciding Champions League semi-final first legs in his early twenties, the now 26 year old seems a shadow of his former self. The Dutchman failed to perform for either United or Everton in the Premier League and despite an improved performance yesterday, he has hardly set the world alight in the Bundesliga for Eintracht Frankfurt.

All in all, despite being a bag of revels once more, the midfield is probably comfortably Championship level.

The Attack

This is where things really get interesting. The attacking trio of Mason Greenwood, Jadon Sancho and Facundo Pellistri are clearly very talented and have all played international football. Greenwood has adapted to life well in La Liga and he is one of Getafe’s most important players. Before his legal problems in 2022, he was one of the country’s most talented young players.

Despite issues in England, Sancho was wonderful in the Bundesliga before his move to the Red Devils in 2021 and has adapted well to life back in Germany.

Pellistri has found it hard to break into United’s first team but he is a key player for Uruguay and will be hoping to find his level in the lower regions of Spain’s first division for Granada.

The attack is certainly mid table Premier League level at worst. Greenwood and Sancho playing to their maximum potential is certainly good enough for European football.

All in all, this is an incredibly varied team in talent and experience, as one would expect from a loan eleven. While most the back five and Gore could be third or fourth division, the front five of this side elevate it to a Championship team.

Whether they would be good enough to be promoted or settle for mid table mediocrity would depend completely on the development of the backline. This team would score bucketfuls but also most likely concede copious chances.

Verdict: Championship level with a good cup run.

United are set to have an exit “technically” outside the transfer window.

Kieran McKenna has revealed that Brandon Williams will return to their club from United in “10 to 14 days”.

Williams had been at United since mid-January or so after going through a tough period with niggling injuries.

He had started his loan spell on fire, with a wondergoal against Preston and made some consecutive starts.

Under McKenna, the hope was that Ipswich’s good form would flow through Williams.

With his contract expiring next season and his wages north of £50,000, the loan move was effectively putting him in the shop window.

Therefore, the injuries hit at the worst possible time for all parties- Ipswich, United, and the player himself.

However, with his minutes at Old Trafford effectively zero with Tyrell Malacia returning and  Luke Shaw back fit, it was a good decision to keep his loan intact.

In fact, Williams will now have the opportunity to be a part of a team going through arguably their most important run-in in recent club history.

McKenna’s side are proving doubters wrong, making an unlikely push for promotion to the Premier League.

They sit at the second promotion spot, second in the league but a small stumble had teams behind them catching up.

Therefore, they can use all the help they can get during the remaining fixtures, of which there are 18.

If Williams can contribute effectively to their campaign, then Premier League riches for Ipswich might lead to an unexpected opportunity.

Ipswich could be in a position to buy Williams permanently and since he is an academy graduate, any fee received for him will be pure profit in the books.

A mutually beneficial deal for all parties, and one which they would hope ends on a good note with the potential of a future extension.

Manchester United full-back Brandon Williams is back at the club to be assessed by medical staff having been on loan at Championship outfit Ipswich Town throughout the first half of the season.

The defender has been in and out of the Ipswich side in recent weeks due to various issues.

“Brandon’s in Manchester at the moment, he’s gone back to Manchester United,” former United coach Kieran McKenna, who is currently in charge of Ipswich, was quoted as saying by TWTD.

“He’s had a period of injuries originally and then more recently illness, so he’s spent this week back there getting assessed by their medical team and won’t be with us for tomorrow,” said McKenna.

The Ipswich boss was then quizzed on whether Williams would be rejoining the Tractor Boys after being looked at by United staff.

“Hopefully he’s fit and available and can come back and we can get back to the Brandon Williams that we had through October and November.

“He’s spent this week with their medical team getting assessed and we’ll have to see how that returns,” he said.

Williams was in fine form in the early stages of the season with Ipswich enjoying a fine campaign so far.

The newly promoted side sit second in the Championship and have their eyes firmly set on promotion to the Premier League.

Williams will no doubt be desperate to help McKenna and his troops finish in the top two, in a division they were far from favourites to get out of.

United, on the other hand, will be hoping to carry on their 2024 fixtures with another win when top four rivals Tottenham Hotspur visit Old Trafford on Sunday.

Brandon Williams was only on the pitch 13 minutes, but he had a chaotic afternoon where he scored an own goal and received a yellow card.

Nonetheless, the Manchester United loanee was on the winning side, as Ipswich Town defeated Coventry City 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.

The victory consolidates the Tractor Boys’ second place position in the Championship table, only one point behind Leicester City. The team from East Anglia have an impressive 14 wins from 19 and have amassed 45 points so far.

This is an incredible rise and a testament to the work former United coach, Kieran McKenna, is doing at the club. Just under two years ago, when the former United first team coach took over the club, they were languishing in the bottom reaches of League One. Now, they find themselves in a clear second place and dreaming of promotion to Premier League.

Unfortunately, it was not such a good night for another member of the Ipswich squad with a United connection. Williams has enjoyed a rather successful loan so far, scoring an incredible solo goal in October and regularly scoring above 7 on Sofascore for his performances in a blue shirt.

The defender has played 14 times for the Portman Road outfit and scored two goals, while picking up five yellow cards according to transfermarkt.com.

Even last week, in defeat, The Peoples Person reported that the English fullback played admirably in spite of the Tractor Boys’ loss.

When Williams came on in the 77th, to replace Harry Clark at right back, Ipswich were cruising to a win. A great through ball and one-on-one finish from George Hirst in the sixth minute and an outrageous outside of the boot curler from Wes Burns, just before half-time, had put the team from the east of England in control.

The versatile full-back had a torrid short spell of action, however. In the 96th minute, the United defender headed the ball into his own net under slight pressure from the Coventry attacker. Luckily for his team, the game ended soon after.

A deep dive into Williams statistics for the game, during his brief spell on the pitch, don’t make for particularly pleasant reading. According to Sofascore, he achieved a 5.8 rating and was given a yellow card, to go alongside his clear own goal.

The loanee had zero blocked shots, zero interceptions and failed in his one dribble attempt. Furthermore, he made zero tackles and made one foul, which resulted in a caution.

The defender did win one of his three ground duels and did touch the ball nine times, with a 100% pass accuracy. This must be seen in the context though, that he only made five passes.

This is also not the defender’s first own goal of the season. The man who has played 51 times for the Man United also had the misfortune to put the ball into his own net on his full debut back in August, as reported here.

The English defender will be hoping for a quick turnaround in fortunes when the Tractor Boys travel to Middlesbrough next Saturday afternoon.
