Facundo Pellistri gives “green light” to Granada loan

by Darragh Fox

Facundo Pellistri has given the “green light” to a prospective loan switch to La Liga side Granada.

Fabrizio Romano reveals the Uruguayan winger is “keen on joining” the Spanish side as he seeks more first-team minutes away from Old Trafford.

Romano wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter): “Green light from Facu Pellistri. He’s keen on joining Granada on loan from Man Utd. Negotiations ongoing now between Man Utd and Granada.”

This is corroborated by Matteo Moretto (Relevo) who appears to be the leading source on this move. Moretto writes Pellistri has “chose to play for Granada” with only a “definitive agreement” from United missing.

Granada have only emerged as the winner in the race for Pellistri’s services at the last minute.

Reports earlier in the day revealed they had expressed an interest in the winger, with PSV Eindhoven and LA Galaxy having previously been touted as potential destinations. Granada quickly leapfrogged both of these teams, however.

One key factor is thought to be the manager of the Spanish side – Alexander Medina.

Medina is a former Uruguayan international and has already bought two of his compatriots to Granada, Bruno Mendez and Matias Arezo; with Pellistri set to make it a Uruguayan triple threat.

Another factor in the United winger’s choice will undoubtedly be the standard of the league he is joining.

La Liga is on a different level to the Eredivisie (PSV) and essentially a different sport to the MLS (LA Galaxy).

If Pellistri hopes to return to Old Trafford and enjoy a successful career in Manchester, he will be much better served by impressing in Spain over the next six months than Holland or America.

Reports suggest United are keen for Pellistri to sign a new contract prior to any departure on loan, suggesting club officials may also see his long-term future in England.

Equally, the club may be maximising his potential value ahead of a prospective transfer this summer, given there is a long queue forming at the right-wing position at Old Trafford.
