Former Manchester United goalkeeper, Peter Schmeichel, has claimed that Alejandro Garnacho has amazing potential but needs to be coached better.

The Dane’s comments come after the Argentine’s performance against Arsenal where he was heavily involved in the second half action but his efforts were often fruitless as his end product was wasteful.

His performance resulted in pundit Gary Lineker claiming that the player’s final ball was “awful” during the match.

Peter Schmeichel has also added to this by claiming that in spite of the 19 year old’s obvious talent, he is not being coached properly at the club.

Speaking to Premier League Productions he criticised United’s overall attacking system.

“It’s all about when you get the ball, I am going to try and score a goal. I am not going to look at any teammates. I am just going to try myself. There doesn’t seem to be a system or an idea of when we do this, these are your options and this is what you can do or that is what you can do.”

The legendary keeper then turned his attention to the academy product and stated, “I think someone like Garnacho today is a great example that doesn’t work. I am watching Garnacho, who had the ball so many times on the left, and I am hoping for him, for now and again, to do something different. But, every time, he is trying to finish it himself – He needs to be coached a little.”

The Champions League winning keeper explained that this lack of coaching makes the player predictable and allowed the Gunners to handle everything he threw at them despite his best efforts.

“You can’t do the same thing every time… He has pace, yes, but he has players up there that are options. Other options … He’s not challenging or changing his angle.”

However, Schmeichel refused to place too much blame on the youngster and pointed the finger of blame at the United coaching staff.

“I am not criticising him as such because he is a young man and full of energy. But he is up against possibly the best defenders in the league. They will suss him out like that very quickly, therefore, you need to put some variation in what you are doing.”

The pundit was not all critical however, as he paid a massive compliment to the attacker’s talent, but he fears it is not being utilised properly.

“He is a great player and prospect. He could be one of the best players in the Premier League, without a shadow of a doubt. He has done so many good things, but in the last month or two, it kind of feels like every time he gets the ball, he thinks he has to finish it.”

The former keeper’s fears are well-founded as despite starting the season well, the Argentine’s campaign has fizzled out as of late.

To be fair, Garnacho has been overplayed and at 19 years old, he bears too much responsibility to make things happen up top, especially with Bruno Fernandes injured.

He has played 47 times this season and has regularly been the most utilised attacking option. The youngster’s talent is there for all to see, but a regular criticism United fans have of Erik ten Hag is that the players do not seem to play to any clear patterns.

Despite the former Ajax coach’s tactical reputation, a lot of the Red Devils’ goals seem to come from moments of individual brilliance and spontaneous actions, rather than carefully planned out systems.

Worryingly, Garnacho’s performance at the weekend was eerily similar to what fans have seen of Marcus Rashford this season, running into trouble and losing the ball at will, with no clear plan of action.

With huge talents like the Argentine and Kobbie Mainoo at the club, and plenty more breaking through the academy at present, it is vital that they receive the education they deserve to maximise their obvious talent.

Manchester United legend, Gary Neville, has claimed that Rasmus Hojlund will never become a great Premier League striker.

The Dane was signed for the eye-watering fee of £72million in the summer and was tasked with leading the line for Manchester United at only 20 years of age.

The now 21 year old has had a mixed campaign where he scored regularly in the Champions League but failed to find the net domestically until Boxing Day.

The winter saw a purple patch where he scored in six consecutive games but injury in February slowed down his season and he has only scored one goal since returning.

The player’s lack of involvement in play is also incredibly worrying, as he has fed off scraps all season long.

There was even a report yesterday that United’s players do not trust him and therefore do not pass to him during matches.

Nonetheless, the player is still the club’s second top goalscorer with 14 goals in all competitions.

More to the point, five chances created for the striker in eight matches would make it impossible for any striker to score goals, never mind a youngster learning his trade.

For context, Manchester City striker Erling Haaland will usually have at least five chances in each match, never mind spread over eight.

Speaking on Sky Sports however, Gary Neville does not believe that the Dane will ever turn into an elite centre forward.

“I think this is a kid that needs persevering with. I looked at Ollie Watkins before. He’s not going to become a Haaland or an Aguero, one of the great strikers in Premier League history, I don’t think.”

“But he can become an Ollie Watkins. You can look at someone like that, I think I can get to 20 goals.”

“I wish he was the second striker this season. I wish he was learning, I did the interview with Erik ten Hag last week. He mentioned Harry Kane. If he was learning off Kane now or playing with Kane, I think you’d see a completely different player.”

“Secondly, he’s 21 years of age. He’s a little bit scruffy in his work is his first season in the Premier League, and he reminds me a little bit of Darwin Nunez. He reminds me a little bit of Nicholas Jackson.”

“When you look at them, they’re projects. Manchester United, this moment in time he’s their only striker. Manchester United, he’s their only striker at the club. Forget Anthony Martial. He’s not been there for years.”

Many fans of the Old Trafford side have major sympathies with Hojlund and understand he has been put in a largely impossible situation.

He is clearly not ready to lead the line but it is possible not even Harry Kane would be successful in a system that provides so few opportunities, as all goal scorers need service to do their job.

Truthfully, it is far too early to tell what type of player or how good he can become. However, what is clear is that he cannot continue like this. A striker needs to be bought in the summer to share the burden and a system must be discovered that can provide regular chances for the striker to get his eye in.

When you consider the great strikers of yesteryear at United such as Denis Law, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Wayne Rooney, they were all surrounded by incredibly creative players who could provide numerous chances a game for them to finish.

Until Hojlund is in something closer to this situation, it is impossible to fairly judge him.

A shocking video emerged on social media after Manchester United’s loss against Arsenal, in which Antony is seen angrily reacting to tactical instructions from Erik ten Hag.

United were beaten 1-0 on Sunday at Old Trafford. Leandro Trossard grabbed the only goal of the fixture.

The surprise personnel change in Ten Hag’s starting XI selection was Amad Diallo. Amad was deployed in his favoured right-wing position in an attacking line also consisting of Alejandro Garnacho on the opposite channel and Rasmus Hojlund leading the line.

Amad justified his inclusion. He was undoubtedly United’s best performer during the time he was on the pitch.

He won all his tackles and successfully delivered all the long balls he tried to find his teammates with. The Ivorian was also brilliant whenever he embarked on dribbles and attempted to take on his man.

Unfortunately, his participation in the match was cut short with 20 minutes of regular time left on the clock with what seemed like an injury. He had to be taken off and Antony was introduced into the proceedings in his place. Unsurprisingly, Antony didn’t offer much but it’s an incident which occurred during the game that particularly irked fans.

In the dying embers of the game, Ten Hag made a bold move as he decided to make a triple attacking change. He brought on Christian Eriksen, Omari Forson and Ethan Wheatley. This forced the Dutch coach to adjust his tactics and positioning of the players.

Ten Hag resorted to instructing Antony to assume an unorthodox left-back role. This did not go down well with the Brazilian, who reluctantly trudged over to that part of the pitch but only after captain of the day Scott McTominay approached him and urged him to do so quickly.

Eriksen also joined in to encourage Antony to heed the manager’s instructions.

The footage also shows the 24-year-old winger pointing at his head and flapping his arms about while seemingly angry and questioning Ten Hag’s decision to put him at left-back. Antony then covers his mouth and shares a word with fellow countryman Gabriel Jesus.

This is not the first time Antony has lashed out when asked to temporarily fill in at left-back. He did the same thing in the dramatic 4-3 FA Cup quarter-final win vs. Liverpool in March.

For a player who has been nothing short of embarrassing this season, it’s startling that Antony would still have the cheek to publicly question the boss and publicly express his disagreement, particularly when United are chasing the game.

It’s another example of why he should be one of the first names out the door as soon as the summer transfer window commences. He neither has the ability nor mentality required to play for a club like United.

Manchester United defender Raphael Varane has claimed the UNFP Citizen Player Award as a reward for his charitable contributions and philanthropic efforts back home.

Madein Foot reports that Varane was handed the prize at Pavillon Gabriel in Paris, France.

Varane won it due to his selfless acts of offering free football courses to young children in the North and in Martinique.

Last year, the accolade was won by Zimbabwe international Marshall Munetsi, who earned praise and admiration for making a huge difference in his home country.

It’s believed that Munetsi donates around 20% of his monthly football earnings to his foundation, which targets underprivileged children by paying school fees for them, and supplying stationery, food hampers and football kits.

Varane is currently injured and not available to Erik ten Hag for selection in United’s games.

The 31-year-old is out with a muscle injury that he picked up in the 4-3 loss at the hands of Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last month.

The issue has caused him to miss United’s last five Premier League games and the four-time Champions League winner is facing a race against time to feature again this term.

There is an expectation that Varane will depart Old Trafford once the campaign concludes, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS eager to get his massive wages off the club’s books.

Journalist Dharmesh Sheth gave an update on the Frenchman’s future and said, “There are going to be players that are going to leave because they’re at the end of their contract. We’ve mentioned these before, we’ve mentioned Raphael Varane, we’ve mentioned Anthony Martial, they are very likely to leave the football club.”

“Then you’ve got players who are going to have one year left on their contract, then you’re going to have players who are slightly older that are on longer-term contracts, who, United will think, this is not the way we want to start this new era.”

Sheth further stated, “So you could see a situation where there could be five, six, seven players leaving the club and five, six, seven players coming into Manchester United.”

United return to action on Wednesday when they host Eddie Howe’s Newcastle at home.

Former England striker Gary Lineker has blasted Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho for not doing enough nor coming up with the goods when it mattered in the club’s loss at the hands of Arsenal over the weekend.

United were beaten 1-0 by the Gunners, whose goal was grabbed by Leandro Trossard.

The result left Erik ten Hag’s men in eighth position in the Premier League standings, three points adrift of Newcastle in sixth and with just two top-flight games left to play.

United were slightly better and much more compact against Arsenal at Old Trafford. The team also registered more possession and more shots but unfortunately, they didn’t really test David Raya.

Most of the Red Devils’ joy in attack came down Garnacho’s flank on the left.

The Argentine produced multiple take-ons and got into some very promising positions but his decision-making often let him down – something that is expected of a player so young and still learning their craft.

However, this did not spare the 19-year-old from being criticised by Lineker.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, the former Leicester City and Barcelona made remarked, “Arsenal went there, it’s not a place where they’ve been particularly successful the last decade or so.”

“All they would have cared about at this stage was that they had to get that win come what may. There was a degree of caution to the game that, I was thinking, ‘God, they might pay for this, you know.'”

Lineker added, “Garnacho was a threat, but his final ball was awful the entire match, I thought.

“I mean, he’s dangerous and all it needed was, you know, one where he cuts in and could conceivably bend one in the top corner and then all of a sudden the title race is pretty much done really.”

United return to action on Wednesday when they take on Eddie Howe’s Newcastle – a crucial fixture that will have a huge say in determining who or not qualifies for the Europa League.

Rasmus Hojlund’s tenure at his dream club has been a rollercoaster journey, with nightmare moments sprinkled in with some hope.

The Dane has had a tough start to at least the Premier League life, as he took to the Champions League like duck to water, scoring five in six before Manchester United got dumped out.

When watching the 21-year-old, it’s obvious how this is his first season in a top-five league as a proper, undisputed starter.

Raw stats aside, there are clear deficiencies in his game with his back-to-goal, link-up play, and even having the smell of goal in the final third sometimes.

However, that doesn’t mean he is a problem, far from it, as the latest stats show.

Statman Dave has posted on his account that United have created a grand total of five chances for their striker in their last eight games.

These include blanks against Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Bournemouth, and Burnley, while three of his chances came against Sheffield United.

It is no wonder then that Hojlund’s only goal in the last eight has come against the Blades. The same post references the fact that Manchester City created six chances for Erling Haaland when he scored four against Wolves in a recent game.

The current pact means Hojlund is at a 20% chance conversion rate, scoring one goal from five chances created for him.

For reference, as per Transfermarkt, Newcastle United lead the Premier League with a shot conversion rate of 12.2%.

While the chance conversion and shot conversion rates are not the same, the lesson here is that Hojlund is actually on par, or even exceeding the figures of an average player.

This is right in line with The Peoples Person’s recent report which said that some of his teammates are “reluctant” to pass to him due to his barren spell in front of goal.

It shows that Hojlund’s lean run isn’t a result of him being wasteful, he has been dealt an unwinnable hand, where the team doesn’t know what it is supposed to do in the final third.

The post Many Manchester United players not convinced by Rasmus Hojlund, reluctant to pass to him appeared first on Man United News And Transfer News | The Peoples Person.

When Rasmus Hojlund was brought in for nearly £70 million in the summer, there was an acceptance that Manchester United were making an all-in bet.

Their first-choice striker target, Harry Kane, was out of their reach so they invested in long-term potential instead.

Still, even with that acceptance, nobody could have foreseen the trainwreck that this United team would become.

Inevitably, in a dysfunctional team, Hojlund has looked even more undercooked than what was expected, although some purple patches of form have made his record on paper look acceptable.

However, if recent reports are to be believed, the problems with Hojlund are much more worrying and emblematic of the culture at the club.

Manchester Evening News reports that several United players are not convinced by Hojlund’s ability and thus, are “reluctant” to pass him the ball.

The Dane is going through a barren run in front of goal, with his effort against Sheffield United an oasis in a desert recently.

The report states that players are seeking “alternative solutions” in the final third because of this lean spell of their striker.

While Hojlund going through a lean spell is a fact, the response of his teammates to this run, if the report even has an iota of truth in it, speaks volumes of the culture and camaraderie at the club.

The teammates seeking “alternative solutions” haven’t been much better, with United barely looking like scoring in many games this season.

In fact, the best they looked was in the month of January, when Hojlund found his feet and started scoring with regularity.

The service, or the lack of it, to the striker has been one of the biggest gripes the fanbase has had with United players.

It would be completely acceptable if the team was firing on all cylinders but the striker wasn’t able to get involved, in which case there are question marks over his ability.

However, it seems like United are stuck in a vicious cycle where players are not passing to Hojlund because he’s going through a lean spell, but the lean spell is happening because he isn’t getting any service. Ultimately, the results are suffering.

Former Manchester United defender, Rio Ferdinand, has branded Erik ten Hag’s decision to continue to play Casemiro as centre-back as “unfair”.

The Brazilian had one of the worst games of his career last Monday against Crystal Palace and was once again at the centre of action for the wrong reasons yesterday.

An injury-ravaged United defence has meant that Casemiro has needed to fill in as a centre back and this experiment has failed miserably.

Arsenal’s winning goal came directly from the Brazilian lazily jogging back into his position, and when the ball broke kindly for Arsenal to launch a counter-attack, he was caught far behind his teammates, therefore playing Kai Havertz onside and in oceans of space to pick out Leandro Trossard to score.

Pundits such as Paul Scholes and Roy Keane have already called out Casemiro’s form and the latter has already stated that the veteran is not good enough to play centre-back at Premier League level.

Speaking on his Vibe with FIVE YouTube channel, Ferdinand has echoed his former teammates’ concerns about Casemiro playing at centre-back but blames the manager for putting him in an unfair situation.

“When is he going to take Casemiro out of the backline? Why can’t Amrabat play there or Scott McTominay? Was Scott [McTominay] injured?”

“I just don’t think it’s fair. If you see a few mistakes from somebody who is playing there, who has never played there before, and you see those mistakes early, you should go: ‘Do you know what? I’m not going to do this to you.”

Ten Hag has previously defended Casemiro and actually complimented the job the Brazilian did yesterday, claiming he is a winner and did a very good job on Sunday.

However, Ferdinand sees it differently and claimed, “I don’t care how experienced he is, I’m not going to do this to him. ‘Come on. We’ll move you out of there and get you back to the position you know.”

The Champions League winner then offered his own solution to the United defensive crisis as they wait for any of Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, Harry Maguire or Victor Lindelof to return to full fitness.

When asked if Aaron Wan-Bissaka could do a job at centre back he replied, “Yeah, play him there. Then play one of the other guys right-back. Put Amrabat there. You’ve played him left-back, play Amrabat right-back.”

“That’s the most natural thing for me. Aaron Wan-Bissaka centre-back and Amrabat at right-back, because he was happy to play him left-back for a few games. I don’t know. We just look like we’re on repeat here. We look like we are an uncoached team.”

The theory is that Wan-Bissaka is a more natural defender and this would allow Casemiro to shift up and defend areas of the pitch he is more used to.

The problem with this is, Casemiro has also struggled when playing as a number six and he has been unable to keep up with the unforgiving pace of the Premier League.

Moreover, Wan-Bissaka is a great tackler but he regularly struggles to stay in the right position defensively and is famously average in the air. Not a good combination for a centre-back.

The solution of Amrabat playing right-back is also perplexing considering he showed nothing of merit as a left-back and his passing or crossing ability hardly stands out as a strength.

What is clear is that Casemiro cannot play at centre back and it is mind-boggling how Ten Hag thinks the opposite.

Kobbie Mainoo has claimed that he wants to still be at Manchester United in ten years and sees a very bright future for the club.

The 19 year old has been one of the few bright spots of a dark season and fans across the world will be delighted that he is so keen to stay at the club.

The Stockport native has enjoyed a meteoric rise, in which he has gone from FA Youth Cup winner in 2022 to being the most important cog in the heart of United’s midfield in under two years.

Pundits have waxed lyrical not only on the player’s quality but also his mentality. Former United man, Rio Ferdinand, has even claimed the player gives him “Seedorf vibes”.

As a result, United fans have worried that the seismic problems in the rest of the team would mean that they will lose their young starlets like Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho, if they continue to underperform so badly on the pitch.

However, speaking to Sky Sports at his former Primary School, the now England international assured any fans worrying about his future that he firmly sees himself at United in the long-term future.

Commenting on his breakthrough season he claimed, “being my boyhood club and such, so to get the opportunity to play for them, that’s a big achievement for me and I hold it close to my heart.”

However, the midfielder was more focused on his future and he asserted, “I’m more looking forward. I think there are a lot of things to come. Yeah, that’s what I am mainly focused on.”

Mainoo was also quick to reassure fans that he sees himself a United player in the future when he was asked where he sees himself in the next ten years.

“That I keep improving and to be a part of something great at the next generation of United and hopefully go on to win many things for the club,” he said.

The 19 year old’s optimism probably comes from the sheer amount of young talent around the club at the moment. Delving into the matter he stated, “yeah, there’s definitely a lot of bright young talent coming through and still a lot to come through.”

“The future’s looking good for us, we just have to wait and our time will come.”

Mainoo also praised his under-fire manager, Erik ten Hag, for his role in his progression as a player. “He’s been a great help this season. He’s given me the chance to play and he has put faith in me. He’s always helping me along the way and giving me advice.”

United will be hoping that their young starlet can finish the season as strongly as he started it when breaking through over the winter and deliver the first trophy of the many that he plans to win at his boyhood club.

Brazilian football legend Rivaldo has insisted that Casemiro’s transfer to Manchester United was purely motivated by financial gain and not sporting reasons.

Casemiro joined United last summer from Real Madrid in a deal worth £70m.

The five-time Champions League winner was targeted after Erik ten Hag failed in his bid to convince Frenkie de Jong to ditch Barcelona in favour of an Old Trafford switch.

Casemiro’s debut season at United was a fantastic one. The 32-year-old was crucial as he helped the Red Devils qualify for the Champions League and end a six-year trophy drought. He even scored in the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle at Wembley.

However, he has been unable to replicate the fine performances in his sophomore campaign in England. Casemiro now looks like a pale shadow of his former self and there’s already talk that he could be sold as soon as the transfer window opens.

He seems to be struggling with the pace and physical demands of the Premier League. A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Saudi Pro League giants Al-Nassr are monitoring his situation and could swoop for him in the coming months.

For the right fee, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS would certainly be open to parting ways with the declining midfielder.

Former Barcelona and AC Milan striker Rivaldo spoke to Betfair (via EPL Index) and had his say on Casemiro’s move to United.

The 1999 Ballon d’Or winner said, “Casimiro is a great person, a friend of mine and someone I played with when I was at Sao Paulo.”

“I think he was living a beautiful story at Real Madrid, but of course, the financial side of things helped his decision.”

Rivaldo however warned against heaping the blame for United’s struggles entirely on Casemiro.

“Manchester United are in a terrible moment, with so many injuries… Casemiro is a midfield player, not a striker or defender, so people criticise him playing out of position, but in my opinion, he is not to blame at all, because Manchester United are struggling massively on their own.”

Rivaldo went on to state that players should ultimately be inspired to change clubs for professional reasons and not monetary incentives alone.

“In my opinion, in football you must be professional. Players must come in to win, regardless of what happens, regardless of the rivalry.”

Casemiro and his teammates return to action on Sunday when they host Arsenal at Old Trafford.
