Manchester United begin their tough gauntlet of end-of-season fixtures with a game at Old Trafford against Arsenal on Sunday.
Mikel Arteta’s men are chasing Manchester City in the Premier League title race while United huff and puff to secure a European place next season.
Not many are picking United as favourites for this one considering the polar opposite form of the two sides but Erik ten Hag’s men have shown an uncanny ability to turn up for the big games this season, just ask Liverpool.
Therefore, Mikel Arteta’s injury update on his Arsenal squad for this game will be very well received at Old Trafford.
Speaking to the press ahead of the game, Arteta confirmed that talisman Bukayo Saka is a doubt for the game.
The England international was heavily strapped in training ahead of the game and when asked about his status for the United game, Arteta simply said it’s a waiting game.
Arteta said: “A few doubts that tomorrow we can resolve with another training session. So we’ll have to see [about Saka and Takehiro Tomiyasu]”.
Saka has been ever-present for Arsenal this season with 16 goals and nine assists in the league alone making him one of the most prolific wide players in the league.
He is in the running for the Premier League’s Young Player of the Season award for which Kobbie Mainoo has also been nominated.
Considering he plays on the right and United haven’t had a natural left-back in what seems like ages, the absence couldn’t be more perfectly timed for Ten Hag’s needs.
Tomiyasu also potentially absent from his right-back spot should also free Rashford, who likes to play against Arsenal, to play his game.
With the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Scott McTominay, and Marcus Rashford returning, United’s prospects of getting a result here are undoubtedly boosted by the injury news on both sides.
